Aecon Industrial achieves nuclear certification

Mar 15, 2005

Toronto, Ontario – March 15, 2005: Aecon Group Inc. (TSX: ARE) today announced that its Cambridge, Ontario-based Industrial division has received its nuclear certificate of authorization from the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA).

The TSSA performed audits of the Aecon Industrial Fabrication Plant facility and a field site last year and awarded certificates of authorization allowing Aecon to work on containment and pressure retaining systems for nuclear power plants.

"Our nuclear certification is a significant and important milestone. While there may be other nuclear-certified organizations in Canada, there aren't many with certified Fabrication Plant facilities that can provide this level of service," said John M. Beck, Aecon Chairman and CEO. "This authorization opens a whole new and rapidly expanding market for Aecon."

The certificates allow Aecon to perform work on all classes of parts and piping systems, both shop assembly and field installation of welded and non-welded components and fabricated assemblies.

"This is a natural evolution of Aecon's history in the Candu nuclear power field that spans over 32 years, starting with a significant role in the original construction of the Bruce Nuclear Generating Station," said Paul P Koenderman, Aecon Executive Vice President and CEO of the Aecon Industrial Group of companies.

Aecon Group Inc. is Canada's largest publicly traded construction and infrastructure development company. Aecon and its subsidiaries provide services to private and public sector clients throughout Canada and internationally.
