Toronto, Ontario – April 5, 2005: Aecon Group Inc. (TSX: ARE) today announced that its Industrial division has secured three key industrial projects in Alberta valued at approximately $60 million.
First, as part of its supplier of choice status with Suncor, Aecon is assisting in the on-site demolition and rebuilding of a fire-damaged Suncor facility in Fort McMurray. As part of the plant reconstruction, Aecon is also providing new pipe fabrication for the Suncor facility, which will be done at Aecon's Edmonton fabrication and module assembly facilities.
Aecon Industrial is also working with Petro Canada's Edmonton refinery on their Gas, Oil Tank (GOT) Project, which was awarded to Aecon early this year. Under this general contract Aecon is performing off-site pipe fabrication and module assembly as well as on-site civil, structural, mechanical and electrical work to construct the GOT Project. Completion is expected by late fall.
Finally, OPTI Canada has chosen Aecon Industrial to work in conjunction with engineers from Fluor Canada on the OPTI Nexen Long Lake Oil Sands project in Fort McMurray. Aecon will perform pipe fabrication and module assembly work in Aecon's fabrication and module assembly facilities in Edmonton. The OPTI Nexen Long Lake Project is one of the newest Oil Sands developments in the Northern Alberta Oil Sands Industry. Work began in early February with completion expected in May 2006.
"Aecon's Industrial division is gaining strength into the first quarter of 2005," said John M. Beck, Chairman and CEO of Aecon Group Inc. "We're delighted to see our industrial fabrication backlog growing as our strategy to increase Aecon's share of oil sands work comes to fruition."
"We are honoured to be chosen for these contract awards as they are of critical importance to our valued key customers," said Stan Shewchuk, Vice President of Aecon's Western Operations. "It shows the confidence our customers have in the dedication and performance of our team in Alberta."
