Aecon secures $17.5 million contract to build highway

Toronto, Ontario – April 22, 2005: Aecon Group Inc. (TSX: ARE) today announced that it has secured a $17.5 million contract from the Ontario Ministry of Transportation to complete a portion of a four-lane highway from Parry Sound to Sudbury in a 50/50 joint venture with Leo Alarie and Sons Ltd.

This contract is a new alignment of highway 69 for 2.4 kilometres immediately south of Sudbury requiring 750,000 cubic metres of rock excavation, 390,000 cubic metres of earth excavation, 150,000 tonnes of granular and 2,000 cubic metres of concrete for structures and culverts.

Work began in February with completion expected in September 2006.
