Toronto, Ontario – June 22, 2009: Aecon Group Inc. (“Aecon”) (TSX:ARE) announced today its Buildings Division has been awarded a $31 million contract to build a veterinary diagnosis complex in St-Hyacinthe, Quebec for the Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ).
The project involves the construction of a veterinary complex for the diagnosis of potentially diseased animals. The three-story complex will be 90,000 square feet and include a 1,700 square foot interior atrium that separates 11,000 square feet of office space from 48,000 square feet of laboratory and Necropsy facilities. The project also includes an effluent decontamination system.
The building will be LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified and will also be built in accordance with the Laboratory Biosafety Guidelines of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. The project is scheduled to begin this July and is expected to be completed by Summer 2011.
