Toronto, Ontario –September 1, 2009: Aecon Group Inc. (TSX: ARE) announced today that its Buildings Division has been awarded the $52 million construction contract for redevelopment of the Queenston-Lewiston Border Crossing Plaza in Niagara Falls by the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission (NFBC).
The project includes the construction of Phase II of a multi-phase project to replace the existing plaza buildings and infrastructure in order to service the demands of increasing traffic and security needs.
Work on the project has begun and is scheduled for completion in fall 2010. The scope of the project includes:
• A new commercial passenger and bus inspection facility for the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), including 60,000 square feet of inspection and office space, a 10,000 square foot commercial inspection warehouse;
• Facilities for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency with 8,000 square feet of warehouse and office space, and;
• Dedicated pedestrian bridges and 10 CBSA passenger vehicle inspection lanes with a below grade service tunnel to the inspection booths. Overhead canopy areas of approximately 40,000 square feet are also included in the project.
