Aecon achieves Silver Progressive Aboriginal Relations Certification

Sep 28, 2023

Aecon proudly announces it has achieved Silver Certification in Progressive Aboriginal Relations (PAR) from the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB).

The PAR certification program confirms corporate performance in Indigenous relations through a rigorous independent process that verifies strong and ongoing working relationships with Indigenous businesses and communities.

“Aecon is proud to receive this certification, demonstrating our progress in continuously working collaboratively with Indigenous Peoples to advance reconciliation, economic development and wealth creation,” said Jean-Louis Servranckx, President and CEO, Aecon.

Over 200 companies participate in the PAR certification program and Aecon is one of four companies that has been recognized at the Silver level. As a Silver-certified company, Aecon has demonstrated its Indigenous business plan through its established Indigenous business partnerships, active contributions of Indigenous Peoples across its workplace, and investments in communities and people to support a sustainable future.

The program includes an online management and reporting program that reports on measurable outcomes and initiatives in four performance areas – Leadership Actions, Employment, Business Development, and Community Relationships. These verified reports are then reviewed by an independent jury of Indigenous business leaders who assign the final Bronze, Silver or Gold certification level.

Aecon has been fortunate to develop sustainable and mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous communities across Canada for many years while continuously learning. In September 2022, Aecon released its inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan, serving as the blueprint for how the company intends to continue to engage and partner with Indigenous Peoples, communities, businesses, and organizations to advance reconciliation.

“Developing and fostering long-lasting, respectful relationships and supporting economic development within Indigenous communities have long been key focus areas for Aecon and will remain paramount to our continued reconciliation efforts. This certification serves as a path forward to truly make a difference in the economic prosperity and lives of Indigenous Peoples and communities” said John Bonin, Vice President, Indigenous Relations.
